Bookout sets the bar high

The Bakersfield College women’s and men’s track and field teams are looking to improve from the Battle of the Regions meet.
The Renegades hosted the Battle of the Regions meet on Feb. 12 where 11 colleges competed.
The BC men’s team had two men that placed first and others who had good results.
Tristan McGee took first in the triple jump with a distance of 13 meters. McGee also placed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 6.19 meters.
Jacob Bookout took first in the high jump with a jump of 1.98 meters.
“A highlight of the day was Jacob Bookout. It’s his first time back in a while. He won the high jump at 6-6, which is an outstanding mark at this time in the year,” said head coach Pam Kelley.
Bookout enjoyed competing at home.
“I do appreciate the home-field advantage and support. I’ve been training with Coach Pam Kelley and Coach Houston Courtney this season, working on my technique and consistency. It’s early in the year, but the goal is to make it to state,” said Bookout.
Daniel Aguirre placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1 minute 58.09 seconds.
Mark Agbalog took fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.41 seconds.
The BC men’s 4×400-meter A-relay team placed fifth in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3 minutes and 27.03 seconds. The BC men’s 4×400-meter B-relay team placed tenth in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:37.98.
The BC women’s team didn’t have anyone that placed first, but there were a few women who had good results.
Taira Saunders placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.67 seconds. Saunders also placed fourth in the 200 with a time of 26.93.
Kassidy Murphy placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1 minute 4.20 seconds.
The BC women’s 4×100-meter A-relay team took second in the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 50.41 seconds.
“We just kind of put the women’s 4×100 team together yesterday, and they finished second, so we’re pleased about that,” said Kelley.
The BC women’s 4×400-meter A-relay team, consisting of Saunders, Murphy, Emagee Tyler, and Carina Perezchica, placed fifth in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of four minutes 28.38 seconds. The BC women’s 4×400-meter B-relay team placed eighth in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 4:39.55.
Sha’nya Terry took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 10.43 meters. Terry also placed fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 33.51 meters.
Marilyn Quintero placed second in the javelin throw with a distance of 26.69 meters. Quintero took third in the discus throw with a throw of 34.40 meters. Quintero also took third in the hammer throw with a distance of 33.72 meters.
The BC track team will be on the road for the Conference Relays in Ventura on Feb. 19. The next BC home meet will be on Feb. 26.
