Women’s soccer edges out win against Citrus
November 9, 2018
On Oct. 30 the Bakersfield College Women’s soccer team defeated Citrus College 1-0 at Memorial Stadium.
The first half was dominated by the Renegade’s soccer team. Even though the Renegades produced many goal-scoring, opportunities were not able to finish them either because there were offside calls or goalkeeper saves. The first half finished 0-0.
BC scored the opening and only goal of the game in the second half. It took them around 68 minutes of playing time to score the goal they had persisted for during the whole game. Midfielder Reagan King was the one who scored after she shot the ball out of the 18-yard box. This is King’s first goal of the season, which is also her first winning goal for a game.
The head coach for the Bakersfield College women’s soccer team, Scott Dameron, explained that Citrus College was a tough team since the beginning and knew that the game was going to be really hard to win. He also explained that at halftime the team was not worried because goalscoring chances were created during the first half and the only detail missing was a goal.
“The second half was more up and down with both teams needing to attack and defend a lot. The second half was more about work and defending for us,” Dameron said.
Dameron also explained that he was not worried when he saw that his team was not putting the ball inside the goal because sometimes those situations happen in soccer games.
“They also have an excellent goalkeeper who made several excellent saves tonight,” Dameron said.
He said that the last matches for the women’s soccer team will be as intensive as the one they held with Citrus.
In their second to last game the Renegades faced off against Canyons on Nov. 6 at Memorial Stadium and the result for the game was a 0-0 draw.
