Bakersfield College men’s soccer team was defeated by Cerritos College by a score of 3-2 on Sept. 8. All five goals were scored in the first half, as Cerritos jumped to a quick 3-0 early lead before BC scored two.
The Renegades were coming off a 4-0 shutout loss to College of the Desert on Sept. 5, and were still seeking their first win of the season. This was the last game of a four game homestand before an ensuing five game road trip that follows.
BC went down 1-0 after the 10th minute, as Cerritos forward Jose Lopez put the visitors ahead. It didn’t take the Falcons long to add a second goal, as seven minutes later, Miguel Gonzalez had a shot attempt that took a deflection inside the box and eventually found the back of the net.
In the 29th minute, Donavan Perez scored an unassisted goal that gave Cerritos a 3-0 lead that it wouldn’t give up despite the Renegade efforts.
BC put up a resilient fight to close out the half, as Pablo Cardenas scored in the 34th minute to make it 3-1. The goal gave the home crowd something to cheer about, and it seemed like the game had begun to shift in the home team’s way.
Four minutes later, that proved to be right when forward Jordee Magana had what was arguably the goal of the season to this point. Magana had some prior looks to score earlier in the game, but in this instance, he was able to spin around the Cerritos defense and curl his shot to the top corner of the net. The goalkeeper stood no chance and Magana had now scored his fourth goal in five games.
Unfortunately, that was the last goal either team would score, as the second half went scoreless. The Renegades had a couple of shot attempts that came close to tying the game, but the Cerritos defense stood tall. The match came to an end, and BC had been defeated.
With the loss, Bakersfield College dropped to 0-4-1 (win-loss-tie) record. Their next match is against East Los Angeles College on Sept. 12.
