The Bakersfield volleyball team defeated Glendale College Friday Nov.10, securing the teams spot in playoffs for the Western State Conference Crossover series. The game was in honor of the sophomores on BC’s volleyball team, Kya Jones, Nattelynn Burns, Alexandria Johnson, Haley Tedrow, Aubree Dees, Monet Panther, and Jayden Issacs were recognized for their contributions to the team.
Great mental preparation before the game is something head coach Ferreira of the volleyball team assures helps executes the most accurate strategies for the games. And because of it being sophomore night, winning was a must.
First set BC had a slow start, Glendale stayed close behind the entire set. Faith Ward put BC back in the lead with an ace. A hard kill ensured a win for the first set. Ending the score 25-21, having a total of 45 possessions.
The next two sets were the most successful for the team. The team was consistent and their execution for both offensive and defense were to a standard. The team had a consistent match up, BC was already up by 8 points in the middle of the second set. The team continued to stay ahead and won the set. Brianna Bowyer had four kills that gave the team an advantage to stay ahead. The scored ended in 25-14.
The third set BC was already ahead of Glendale by 7 points and processed to stay ahead the entire rest of the set. BC taking the last and final win of the game, 25-14. The final score being 3-0.
“Overall, the game was extremely successful, it’s sophomore night so you want to win and by winning that match we clenched the conference championships.” Coach Ferreira explained.
The game leaders were Kya Jones with 18 digs, Monet Panther scoring three service aces, Brianna Bowyer with 15 kills, and Haley Tedrow.
This will be the first championship for some of the players and is an opportunity for the team to be recognized with this type of honor.
The next game is a home game and will be against Moorpark College, Tuesday at 6 p.m. This will be the volleyballs team first playoff game of the season.
