Bakersfield Colleges (BC) Swim team made a splash at 2024 WSC Swimming Championships. The conference was held from April 18-20, with men placing third and women placing fourth.
Not only did swimmers have qualifying state times, but records were also broken.
BC student athlete and 2-time athlete of the week winner Dawson Hoff left the meet confident after breaking the 100-meter backstroke record. Gaining a time of 52.52, it automatically guaranteed him a spot in states.
“I touched the wall, and I knew I got my time because I heard my teammates yelling for me,” said Hoff. “I saw 52.52 on the screen and I felt so happy. I was looking forward to that moment the entire season.”
Prior to 2024 conference, Hoff trained extensively for his state qualifying events, including 100 and 200 meter backstroke, 50 meter freestyle, and the 200 freestyle relay.Fellow BC students Cody Hart, Aiden Carballo, and Ethan Cobbs went to state championships.
Collectively, all men competed in the 200 medley relay, 200 free relay, 400 free relay, and the 800 free relay. Aydan Carballo participated in the 1650 freestyle, Cody Hart participated in the 50 free, 100 free, and 200 free where he broke the school record for the 200 free with a time of 1.40.70 and placed second in finals.
“It made me feel a quarter of the way there, because there are still more records I want to break, and its only my first year,” said Hart. “The jobs not finished yet.”
