The Bakersfield College mens soccer team continues to dominate the field after a 1-0 win against Antelope Valley College. Their win streak ensues after defeating College of the Canyons in their third conference match with a 1-0 win on Oct. 20.
BC’s mens soccer team returned home after two away matches on the road vs. Citrus and Antelope Valley College. With conference matchups, a 1-1 tie vs Citrus (goal scored by Forward Jordee Magana) and 1-0 vs. AVC (goal scored by Midfielder Christopher Gandara).BC stacked up 10 total shots as a team and 2 of those were on goal.
With College of the Canyons showing no signs of momentum, BC took full possession of the ball for a majority of the first half. Canyons played well defense for the most part which led to BC going scoreless in the first half.BC and Canyons fought hard until the second half in the 73rd minute of the match. Defender Oscar Villagrana and Midfielder Anthony Gambe, undisturbed by Canyons defenders, assisted BC Forward Jordee Magana for a beautiful goal setup to give BC the lead. BC’s fans cheered for them after 73 minutes of suspense & back and forth possession.
Fortunately, BC had to hurry and get on defense to protect their lead for the rest of the match which successfully helped them take control of time, possession, and their 2nd conference victory.
BC Goalkeeper, Victor Melendez played a full 90 minutes, and his defenders led him to be at peace in front of the net as he had 0 saves and only one foul at 90:00.
Forward Jordee Magana leads his team in shots, goals, and shots on goal. Scoring his 7th goal of the season and a hard-fought 7th shutout victory.
With the win, Bakersfield College bumped up to 7-4-4 (win-loss-tie) record. They remain with three home games with the next match against Citrus College on Nov.1.
