The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed their eighth World Series title in game 5 against the Yankee’s. This championship gave the Dodgers and fans the last laugh. The last four years, opposers claimed the Dodgers 2020 Championship was a “Mickey Mouse” ring, when something is too easy.
World Series-MVP Freddie Freeman, led the Dodgers on this remarkable run. He missed eight games due to personal issues and a right ankle sprain late in the season. Freeman had an amazing postseason performance, breaking the record for most consecutive home runs in world series games (6) and tying the record for most RBI’s in a world series (12).
The Dodgers path to the championship wasn’t easy. They first faced the San Diego Padres in their hardest matchup of the postseason. The Dodgers were down 2-1 to the padres after game three, but then clinched the Division in a 3-2 series beating the Padres.
The boys in blue faced their second test against the New York Mets. They rounded the bases against the Mets defeating them 4-2 in the series.
In game 1 of the World Series, Enrique “Kike” Hernandez hit a triple off the top of the zone sending it to right field. Will smith followed up with a sacrifice flyout and brought Kike in for the 1-0 lead. Following, Giancarlo Stanton hit a 2-run home-run to take the lead. Betts brought in Ohtani who hit a double in the bottom of the 8th. The game lead to extra innings, and Anthony Volpe grounded a force-out at 2nd with Jazz Chisolm Jr. going in for a RBI. The Yankees set themselves up intentionally, walking Betts to load the bases up and Freeman coming up to bat. Freeman displayed composure with his swings and hit a grand slam, winning game 1 of the series.
Dodgers would go onto winning game two and three and then take a loss in New York for game four. Nearly everyone expected the series to take a turn but instead the Dodgers sealed the series in New York 4-1 with a final of 7-6 rallying from a 5-0 deficit in the 5th inning.
Los Angeles made their mark this 2024 season after spending over $1 billion in contracts in the offseason, acquiring the most exciting player in the MLB, Shohei Ohtani. He broke the 50/50 record making him the only one in MLB history to accomplish this.
The Dodgers celebrated big with champagne and a celebratory parade to conclude their 2024 season with their championship win.
