The BC’s men soccer team secured the victory for their game against Citrus College on Friday, Nov. 1 with a score of 1-0.
The game started quickly with high anticipation from BC and the people in the stands. Both teams fought long and hard during the first half of the game trying to score and both almost came close, but no goals were able to be made.
The first half was tense, it was a battle that both teams were eager to win. The continuous back-and-forth with the ball made everybody’s head move simultaneously. Midfielder, Christopher Gandara was almost always able to keep the ball in his possession while trying to run up the field looking for a teammate to pass the ball to, but Citrus would not hold back on their defense. This type of play continued throughout the first half.
Goalie Victor Melendez, successfully kept up with Citrus protecting the goal and blocking their kicks. The ball came at him in many different ways, but Melendez being steadfast, was able to keep the ball away and help his teammates keep striving for a goal. This was a continuous task from Melendez the entirety of the game.
As the teams headed into halftime the score remained 0-0. Something must have shifted in the time BC’s coaches had to talk with the players. Going into the second half it was evident that BC wasn’t going to give up.
It wasn’t until the 84th minute of the second half when defender, Oscar Villagrana and Forward, Joshua Bryant assisted the ball to Defender, Isaiah Castaneda, making no mistakes and scoring the first and only goal of the game. After the goal was made, motivation increased within BC’s players because the fight to finish the game and win it, was just around the corner.
The final whistle blew, and BC celebrated their well-deserved win. This would be BC’s 6th shutout game and 9th win for the season with only 4 more games left to play.
BC will travel for a couple of away games before they make their way back for their last home game against Glendale College on Friday, Nov. 15.
