BC men’s soccer team faced Glendale on Nov. 15 and finished their regular season with a win. Before the game started, sophomores were given the spotlight while being celebrated by friends and family.
There were many close plays by both teams, but more shots were taken by BC. BC was passing the ball very well down and middle field, and that led to them scoring the first goal of the game. The wind was messing up some curve shots by BC. Both teams continue to almost score goals, good defending on both sides. It became a defensive and physical game. The ball was defended very well on both ends. Two very close goals almost made by BC.
With ten minutes remaining in the first half, midfielder Julian Bustos (22) scored the first goal of the game. BC almost scored another goal before the first half ended but it was blocked by Glendale’s goalie. BC went into the half up 1-0.
Both teams spent their halftime huddled up with their coaches talking to each other. After the huddles, both teams started warming up and getting ready for the second half to start.
BC kicked off the second half receiving the ball. Glendale was less physical in the second half and had trouble passing the ball around. With Glendale being less physical, it allowed BC the opportunity to score. A nice assist from Anthony Gambe (34) to Hugo Viramontes (4) added the second goal of the game. A few minutes later, Gambe outran Glendale’s defense to score a third goal for BC. The Renegades were more physical and defensive in the second half, leaving them to score a fourth goal by forward Leonardo Villalpando (7).
BC was cruising to a 4-0 lead. The refs made little to no calls throughout the game allowing the teams to just play ball. After BC scored their fourth goal, Glendale finally got on the scoreboard scoring their first goal in the 70th minute. BC ended up winning 4-1 on Sophomore Day.
