The Bakersfield College Men’s Basketball team held their 10th home game against West LA, on Feb. 5.
The BC team held down a strong first half lead against West LA 35-31, but seemed to struggle moving forward towards the second half. Just within a couple of minutes into the first half Joaquin Rio (23 ) went for a layup, missing, but the ball was quickly recovered by Ollie Fell (14) putting up an offensive rebound leading his team into a 2 point layup lead. The game’s flow picks up strongly with both teams fighting, staying right behind each other.
In the second half, BC makes desperate attempts to pick up their 4 point lead as Lendl Henderson (11) misses a 3 point jump shot. In efforts to recover Rio took an offensive rebound, but was turnover by Goodwill Fomusoh (21) shifting the game over to West LA.
Foul calls started to take toll on the BC team causing a lot of frustration on the team and its coaching staff. This gave West LA the upperhand, as BCs heavy hands, leading to a lot of foul calls, were at their advantage.
Khalil Shivers (5) shines light on their team struggles during the game being too physical with their hands , not sliding over fast enough, and playing at West LAs pace of game. In an interview with Shivers he says, “Energy! Our energy shifted a little bit when we came up in scoring. Mainly I tell my guys we have to keep it up-second half, first half, especially in the last half.” Bringing a more positive light onto his team’s faults. In hopes to shift the energy into their next game.
The crowd was loud on the bleachers to distract West LA.
The fans weren’t the only ones in the cheering spirit. A brief halftime show was performed by our BC cheerleaders. They did stunts and a dance routine to pump up the crowd.
Despite efforts from the crowd, BC is set back with a tough loss against West LA, with a final score of 70-66. BC Men’s Basketball finishes now at an overall record of 10-13. The next home game will be on Wednesday Feb. 12 at 7 pm.
