Bakersfield College’s Concert Band and combined BC/CSUB Orchestra performed their fall concert at the Edward Simonsen Indoor Theatre on Nov. 15, and was attended by a full auditorium.
The event featured solos by Apollo Alva on the clarinet and Mariana Romo on the viola.
The concert served as a showcase of the culmination of the hours of practice put in by all the musicians.
BC’s concert band performed 6 songs ranging from more upbeat to calmer melodies.
The concert brought together friends, family, and loved ones to enjoy songs such as “Cajun Folk Songs, II: Belle” by Frank Ticheli and “J.F.K. in Memoriam” by James Curnow. During their performance of “Czardas” by Vittorio Monti, arr. Glover, clarinet player Apollo Alva performed a solo.
The BC/CSUB orchestra showcased viola player Mariana Romo who performed a solo during “Viola Concerto in C Major, I” by Joseph Haydn, directed by Dr. Leo Sakomoto.
The orchestra closed the night out with “Symphony No. 35” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Prior to the performance of “Symphony No. 35,” it was noted that traditionally applause is held until the end of all four parts of the song.
Both the concert band and orchestra performed with expertise and sophistication that were testament to the hours put into preparing for the concert.
